Hello Everyone!

Are you all ‘Falling for October, yet? Well I’m about two weeks behind schedule with sending out this newsletter. It’s funny how sometimes life gets the best of us. I have been faced with quite a few negative circumstances in the past month, most of which I have had no control over. At first I let these things get the best of me. But then I came to realize that the more I felt down, the more negative I was surrounded by (The Law of Attraction). I decided to start looking at the positive in every circumstance and in turn my perceptions have changed. I also came to accept that I have to let go of the things I have no control over. These changes have helped me immensely in coping with the challenges of life. What they have also guided me to see is that I have not been living in the moment. I started worrying about the future and dwelling on the past, rather then embracing what I have right now in front of me.

As I sat down this snowy October morning, I recollected a beautiful piece written by a fellow Holistic Health Counselor. She sent out a letter several months back when her father was diagnosed (a second time) with a ‘terminal’ form of cancer. I had excerpted a piece of this letter the day I received it and I keep it on my desk for all of my visitors to read. As thoughts of this letter popped into my head, I acknowledged its purpose: that we all need to ‘live’ what it reads.

“ It only takes one person to believe that something is possible. Whatever it is that you long for and desire, may you own it, live it and sing it to the world. In the end, we are all going to die. Some sooner, some later. Some will be old. Some will be quite young. The real question is, are we all going to LIVE while we are here? Be. Here. Now.”

It is that simple…believe that anything is possible. And share your beliefs with the world! A simple change of thought or emotion can be the answer you need right now. That’s what I did to cope with my personal hardships. I needed to change my perceptions of the situations I was facing, believe that things would get better, and embrace the moment. Try it. Next time you are faced with a negative situation, take a breath, sit back, and focus on what good can come out of it. Get into this habit. Remember this is the only life we have. Don’t you want it to be a POSITIVE journey?

The moments I have not learned to embrace yet are our first snowy days of the season. Every year I struggle with the cold, winter months. And I was in complete shock when I looked out the window yesterday afternoon to see SNOW on October 15th?! Autumn is referred to as Fall for the leaves that fall off of the trees, not the snowflakes that fall from the sky! I guess I will have to work harder to accept the things I cannot control .

Spring 2009

Spring Cleaning

Hello Everyone! Happy Spring! I am sure we are all in agreeance by now: thank goodness it is warm and sunny outside!! It seems everyone I talk to these days was really struggling, both mentally and physically, from the winter we had. And just when things seemed to be getting cold again, we were blessed with a few beautiful days (and plenty more to come)!!

With that being said, I figured I would touch on the things we have to look forward to and plant the seed for the self-care we can begin as we transition into the promising season of Spring.

We are all familiar with the concept of 'Spring Cleaning', right? Opening up the windows to air out the house, taking apart the closets and cabinets to put away our winter items and implementing the extra detailed cleaning (indoor and outdoor) that we may have put off. Well why not offer a 'Spring Cleaning' to our bodies as well?

I am a huge advocate for detoxification and cleansing of the body. I also believe there is no better time than the Spring. It gives our bodies an opportunity to flush out the toxins we have accumulated and puts us on the right track for a healthy lifestyle. I have several detox products that I recommend to assist the process and would love to offer that information to you (please email me if you are interested).

But what exactly is the importance of this inner 'Spring Cleaning' anyway? Cleansing, also called detoxification, is our body's normal process of elimination; a function that occurs daily through our colon, liver, kidney, lungs, lymph and skin. The most obvious forms of elimination are sweat, urine, and bowel movements. Other organs also eliminate, though you do not actually see this process. Despite the fact that we eliminate continuously, our bodies are having difficulty keeping up with the demand because we are accumulating an unnatural amount of toxins daily. This toxic overload prevents our overworked organs and colon from finishing all their assigned tasks and as a result, the toxins collect within our system.

The most common symptoms of toxic buildup include: stress, constipation or failure to have a regular daily bowel movement, feeling sluggish or low energy, lack of motivation, strong food cravings, high sugar consumption, caffeine dependency and unidentifiable illness.

Unfortunately, many of us do not drink enough pure water or eat quality organic foods (foods that are not factory-made or laden with chemicals). We may not exercise, sleep well or wake up feeling rested. It is obvious that an individual with these habits would incur a greater toxic load than someone who is practicing a healthier lifestyle. The sad truth is, however, that no one is safe. Even those with good eating and living habits are exposed to an excess of environmental toxins. This excess becomes embedded in our tissues, our organs overload and we may feel sick from the buildup.

Our bodies do the best they can with this stressful buildup by storing the extra toxins in our cells, fat and mucus to protect us from further or deeper damage. How each individual's body compensates for this toxic overload is unique and shows up as a wide variety of symptoms that undermine us in every way imaginable. It is clear this compensation affects our overall health, energy and ability to heal. These toxins make us ill, fat, constipated, congested, uncomfortable in our bodies, depressed, drug dependent, diseased and powerless to make important changes that we need to make in order to be well.

Consider some of the many benefits of cleansing:
-Improved digestion, better elimination, less constipation, gas, bloating and indigestion
-Freedom to breathe more deeply
-Less allergic or reactive responses to foods. You will likely experience less mucus and congestion and a clearing of sniffles and coughs.
-More energy, better nutrient absorption, overall improved health
-Balanced pH; improved alkalinity, less acidic
-Weight loss and the realization that you can enjoy a lighter style of eating
-Sense of satisfaction, greater vitality and a desire to choose better foods and develop better eating habits, permanently
-A deeper understanding of how to take care of yourself with these new found skills.

As we near the warmer days, we look forward to being more active and enjoying our time outside. Why not clean out your internal "home" and reap the benefits of a healthier you, one that can truly enjoy each and everyday. Remember, this is the only real "home" we have. We should give it the cleaning and care that it needs and deserves. Hope all of you enjoy the transition!
Be Well,
Brittany
